Summer 2008 Fiction Writing Classes
I will be teaching two fiction writing classes this summer for Bossier Parish Community College's adult education program. One class is for people who want to write but don't know how to start. The other class is for people who want to write, but don't know how to finish.
Building a Foundation for Writing your Fiction Novel
Scope: Many people have a novel in them, but don't know how to get it onto paper. To write a novel is to undertake a long and sometimes strenuous journey. Success is more certain if a writer prepares for the adventure. Learn the secrets of the pros to increase your odds of sucess.
This class will present both writing skills and the writer's mindset for those who have a novelist's spirit but no writing training or experience. Classes will include in-class writing exercises as well as lectures. Must be 16 or older. Classes are on Tuesdays, starting June 17 through July 22 for six sessions. Cost is $59. Register now!
Beginning Novel Writing
Scope: The first pages of a novel flow easily for many writers. But then, the story ideas begin to wander or disappear and the doubts and second guessing begins. Learn the techniques to move your story forward and develop a support system to keep your writer's spirit motivated and strong.
Prerequirements: Students must bring the first 30 pages of their rough draft to the first class.
This class will present both writing skills and the writer's mindset for those who have a novelist's spirit and have ventured into the world of writing but haven't yet reached their goals of a completed novel. Emphasis is on writing commercial fiction for future publication. Classes will include in-class writing exercises, realistic goal setting, lectures and peer critiques. Must be 18 or older. Classes are on Thursdays, starting June 5 through July 24th for seven sessions. (No class on Thursday, June 12) Cost is $69. Class is limited to the first 20 students-no exceptions. Register now!
