Message from Connie

Dear Reader,

When I sat down to write this story, it was as if I’d just stepped off the elevator at the Sheffield Memorial Pediatric Diagnostics Floor to see Dr. Jason Drake with all his intensity in a locked stare with Dr. Stephanie Montclair, his equal in every way.

Frankly, I just held on for the ride as they battled illness along with their attraction to each other.

A calling to the medical profession is an emotional pull borne of sympathy and nurturing.  Yet, doctors, particularly those who work with children, must not become overwhelmed with emotion to the point that they cannot apply medical science and logic.  It’s a struggle to find that balance and can take a great toll on the spirit.

But not bearing that load alone is what this story is all about.

Dr. Jason Drake and Dr. Stephanie Montclair find respite in each others arms, but they need more.

Will proud, strong heiress, Dr. Stephanie Montclair risk heartache when Jason proposes to share responsibility for her professional burdens as well as for her unborn baby?

Can the stoic and brilliant Dr. Jason Drake accept the emotional healing Stephanie offers to sustain him through the trials of his profession as well as the tragedy of his past?

When these decisions take a life-or-death turn, will love conquer all?

These two dynamic doctors kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.  I hope you enjoy reading their story as much as I enjoy sharing it with you.  Let me know!

A Tribute to Books

”"Sunday morning, sipping down the last dregs of a great ‘working’ weekend away. Usually these weekends are writers’ conferences, where we hear industry news, feed each others’ insecurities and bolster their hopes simultaneously, learn new techniques and get refresher courses in the basics.

But this weekend was different. It was a READERS conference. And it filled this reader’s soul with an enthusiasm for the written word in a whole different way than writing does.

Reading is my first love. Since I could sit up by myself, and probably before that, I have loved books. Right before my beloved father died, he had forgotten so much, but he could still quote the pages of my Counting Book from Golden Books. ‘High in the sky in the shape of a V, how many wild ducks can you see? Hurry and count them as they fly. You can see nine ducks and so can I.’

Books shield me from boredom.   If you don’t know me, you might not realize how big this is for me.  I am at my most miserable–not just uncomfortable–but totally out of touch with who I am and what my purpose is–when I am bored.

But that is not all books do.

Their plots give me  answers to my own life story.  Their characters show me people  so different than the ones I surround myself with, safely giving me a bigger world and preparing me for the time when I step outside my  comfort zone.  Those characters also show me that there is someone out there  kind of like me and being me is okay.

And this weekend, surrounded by readers who celebrate their love for books, I am reminded of who I am.  I am you-a reader.

Thanks to all who have renewed that joy in me.
